Why is the Build a School campaign important?
Education is one of the most important factors in breaking the cycle of poverty and inequality. Children with access to quality education are likelier to get better jobs, earn higher incomes, and live healthier lives. Education also helps to promote peace and democracy.
In India, many children need access to quality education. Some reasons for this include poverty, distance from school, the financial condition of their parents, lack of access to schools, and discrimination. MESKP’s Build a School campaign is working to address these challenges by providing Free education to children in rural and urban India.
Project Overview:
In India, numerous children face barriers to accessing quality education due to poverty and limited resources. The existing educational infrastructure needs help to accommodate the growing population of students in need. We aim to bridge this gap by establishing a state-of-the-art school with a secure and inclusive learning environment.
Our project involves constructing a school facility with contemporary classrooms, one-time mid-day meals, books, school dress, stationery, well-equipped laboratories, a resourceful library, and a smart class. This institution will impart education and focus on holistic development, nurturing students’ creativity, critical thinking, and leadership skills. By creating such a school, we aim to empower the youth of India with the tools they need to succeed and contribute meaningfully to society.

Challenge Faced:
Building a school campaign across India faces several challenges, including:
- Cost: Building schools is expensive, and raising enough money can make building schools in all parts of India challenging.
- Access to land: Finding suitable land to build schools on can be difficult, especially in densely populated areas.
- Government bureaucracy: Obtaining the necessary permits and approvals from the government can be time-consuming and complex.
- Lack of skilled labour: India has a shortage, making finding qualified contractors and workers to build schools challenging.
- Corruption: Corruption can be a problem in India, making it challenging to ensure that funds are used for the intended purpose.
- Discrimination: Discrimination against certain groups of people, such as girls and children from low-income families, can make it difficult for these children to access education.
Dropout Rate:
According to the UDISE+ 2021-22 data, the dropout rate in India is most pronounced:
- At the secondary level (9-10) at 12.6%,
- Upper primary level (6-8) at 3%,
- The primary level (1-5) is at 1.5%.
Additionally, the data highlights a consistent trend where the dropout rate is higher for girls than boys across all levels of education.
